REVILL VILLANUEVA (b. 2000 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) is a contemporary Filipino-Canadian visual artist and researcher based in Toronto, Canada. His practice critically engages with themes of dystopian environments, immigration, ancestry, futurity, identity, speculative technologies, spirituality, and temporality. Drawing from traditional Filipino semiotics and integrating contemporary design elements inspired by science-fiction epics, Villanueva’s work constructs complex personal narratives that reflect his experiences within the Filipino diaspora and as an immigrant in Canada. He has exhibited works with the Art Gallery of York University, Gallery 1313, Gales Gallery, and Special Projects Gallery in Toronto.
Villanueva holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours in Visual Arts - Studio from York University.
