Scorching Scorpions (2023) — inspired from Ifugao tattoos and western zodiac signs. A synthesization of ancient Filipino scorpion tattoos and Villanueva’s scorpio zodiac sign as part of his identity. In this piece, he is exploring the concept of transcending 2D lines into linear sculptures; where extreme “heat” transforms the objects from abstract into something familiar.
